Facebook acquired Scape Technologies

Scape Technologies, the London based computer vision startup working on location accuracy beyond the capabilities of GPS, has been acquired by Facebook.

Scape’s backers included Entrepreneur First (EF) — the startup is an alumnus of the company builder program — along with LocalGlobe, Mosaic Ventures, and Fly Ventures.
Founded in 2017, Scape Technologies was developing a “Visual Positioning Service” based on computer vision which lets developers build apps that require location accuracy far beyond the capabilities of GPS alone.

The technology initially targeted augmented reality apps, but also had the potential to be used to power applications in mobility, logistics and robotics. More broadly, Scape wanted to enable any machine equipped with a camera to understand its surroundings.

GoDaddy acquires social content startup Over

GoDaddy has reached an agreement to acquire Over, the startup behind an app that helps businesses create the photos and videos they need for social media. Over capabilities really target those set of people, who may have an Instagram profile where they need to post visually engaging content but have never gone to GoDaddy.

This follows GoDaddy’s relaunch of its website-building tools last fall under the new name Websites & Marketing, with additional features around email marketing, search engine optimization and maintaining a presence beyond your website, whether that’s on Facebook or Yelp.
Over will continue to operate as a standalone the app, and he said the team will continue to develop new features for the app. At the same time, they’ll be building integrations with Websites & Marketing, for example by taking Over and connecting it “into our insights tool to understand how different elements of [online] presence layer in together, to look at templates and how those actually help different types of small business owners.

The Start-up has more than 1 million active users of its own, who are using it to create more than 220,000 projects every day.

TripAdvisor acquires SinglePlatform

TripAdvisor, Inc. the world’s largest travel platform has acquired leading menu management company SinglePlatform from Endurance International Group to help the more than five million restaurants listed on TripAdvisor attracts more diners and offers a better guest experience.

Today, 93 percent of diners check menus online before choosing a place to eat, but for restaurants, keeping their menus up to date everywhere on the Internet is challenging and time-consuming process. SinglePlatform works with restaurants to easily publish and manage their menus and other key information such as their business name, opening hours and contact information on main search and discovery sites like Google and Facebook. Upon completion of the integration, restaurants will be able to subscribe to the service and conveniently update their menus across the web, all at one time, directly from the TripAdvisor management center.
TripAdvisor will expand its digital marketing suite for restaurants and soon offer valuable menu and listings management services to restaurant owners globally utilizing the knowledge and network of the SinglePlatform technology. In addition, TripAdvisor will be able to offer a more advanced menu integration to help diners searching on TripAdvisor for restaurants.

TripAdvisor currently offers restaurants free features to respond to diner reviews and update their listing information on its site and app, as well as paid advertising opportunities such as TripAdvisor Ads and TripAdvisor Premium to drive more exposure and traffic to their businesses.
